MIKE POMRANZ (dot com)

DJ Mike Pomranz has distinguished himself from other disc jockeys not by focusing on a specific genre or style, but by spinning music exclusively from the 1970s.

DJ Mike Pomranz creates an immersive ’70s experience by mixing the era’s biggest hits with lost tracks by the forgotten greats of rock, soul, R&B, jazz, lounge, funk, disco and even early hip-hop — all without forgetting to keep things international by mixing in the occasional afrobeat, krautrock or Balkan folk music track.

Since embarking on a professional career in 2013, DJ Mike Pomranz has appeared at a vast array of legendary NYC venues (some RIP!) including Threes Brewing, Beauty Bar, Ding Dong Lounge, Coco 66 and The Royal Palms.

Some of my favorite records:

  • Aja by Steely Dan
  • Baby Batter by Harvey Mandel
  • Bored Civilians by Keith Cross & Peter Ross
  • Come Together by Ike & Tina Turner
  • Crawl Space by Art Farmer
  • Dreamer by Bobby “Blue” Bland
  • Exile on Main Street by The Rolling Stones
  • Expensive Shit by Fela Kuti
  • Hard Candy by Ned Doheney
  • Naturally by J.J. Cale
  • Nightlife by Thin Lizzy
  • Once in a Blue Moon by Frankie Miller
  • Rides Again by James Gang
  • Right or Wrong by Stealers Wheel
  • Show and Tell by Al Wilson
  • Smokin’ by Humble Pie
  • Station to Station by David Bowie
  • Sweet Replies by Honey Cone

And a Spotify play of some pleasantly upbeat ’70s jams:
